Students to host North American Free Speech Week

By

Students For Liberty is driving the fight for the right to free expression on college campuses. Members of Students For Liberty North America are launching a Free Speech Week across college campuses in the United States and Canada to defend students’ right to free speech. The activities are set to take place during the week of January 17-23, 2022, when schools are scheduled to reopen for the upcoming semester.

At Students For Liberty, we believe that every individual has the right to express themselves freely. College and university campuses are places where this fundamental right needs to be protected and cherished. However, in recent years, we have witnessed a surge of new regulations that suppress free speech, including speech codes, trigger warnings, safe spaces, free speech zones, among others.

We believe that university campuses need to evolve towards embracing free speech and become places that empower students to grow, express their views, gain exposure to the ideas of others, and engage in civil discourse. At Students For Liberty, we celebrate everyone’s right to challenge ideas, protest, express their perspectives, practice their religion, and freely associate with others in whatever manner is mutually consensual. As such, campuses should become champions for free speech.

During the week of January 17-23, students will launch #FreeSpeech demonstrations across North American college campuses to assert their right to express themselves freely on university campuses.

Students For Liberty’s Free Speech Week demonstrations will take place in the following locations:

  • Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
  • Ohio University, Athens, Ohio
  • University of Alabama – Huntsville, Huntsville, Alabama
  • Florida International University, Miami, Florida
  • Pensacola State College, Pensacola, Florida
  • Mercer University, Macon, Georgia
  • Sonoma State University, Sonoma, California
  • Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah
  • Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah
