Emil Ekvardt from Great.com recently interviewed Students For Liberty as part of their ‘Great.com Talks With…’ podcast. This series is intended as an antidote to negative news stories, aiming to shed light on organizations and experts whose work is making a positive impact in the world.
Mobilizing a network of pro-liberty students
What are the foundational and essential aspects of a free society? A good starting point would be limited government and a free market economy.
Students For Liberty’s CEO, Dr. Wolf von Laer, described the organization’s role as defined by its mission: to educate and empower students throughout the world in the principles of a free society and the ideas of liberty.
Returning power to the people
In the interview with Great.com, he emphasized how classical liberals and libertarians believe that the discourse around economics and the role of government would benefit from a greater emphasis on innovation. From a pro-liberty perspective, it is important to strive for growth through human ingenuity. We must be able to learn from the structures around us as opposed to maintaining fixed ideas about how society should operate.
Dr. Wolf von Laer explained the unfortunate reality that so many young people are not adequately educated about several elements that are a prerequisite to a free society. Free markets and property rights are one such example.
However, this knowledge has the power to give people ownership over their own choices and embrace the values of individual liberty and economic freedom. As such, Students For Liberty’s mission involves tackling these educational shortcomings in order to empower young people and put power back into the hands of each individual.
