How the Internet Shapes Our Opinions

Join us on November 17, 2020 at 12:00 PM EST for the first edition of our Free Expression Webinar Series!

The Director of International Programs at Students For Liberty, Elizabeth Hicks, will be interviewing Turi Munthe, Founder of Parlia, “the Encyclopedia of Opinion.”

Prior to Turi Munthe’s current post, he founded Demotix, which became the largest community of photojournalists in the world, and sold it to Bill Gates’ Corbis Corporation. He is a Venture Partner at North Base Media, has been a trustee of the Index on Censorship, OpenDemocracy and The Signals Network, and sits on the board of GEDI, Italy’s largest newspaper conglomerate.

Turi Munthe describes Parlia as the following: “We’re a wiki: mapping out all the perspectives on both the breaking stories and controversies of the day, as well as the big evergreen questions: does God exist? Is Messi really better than Ronaldo? The way we’re building is to also help fix today’s polarisation, outrage and information silo-ing.”

Unlike other forums, Parlia is trying to include all opinions that exist on the internet in order to be inclusive of all thoughts and ideas, which makes it comparable to a wiki page. Unlike Quora and other platforms, the contributors do not have an intent to promote themselves, or their products or services.

The goal of Parlia is to map out all of the opinions which exist on single issues, and encourage users to work out their thoughts while also trying to understand what other people think and why they think the way they do.

Join us to listen to Turi and Elizabeth explain why the ability to freely express yourself is a value that is integral to fostering liberty.
