Russell Coates

Russell is Students For Liberty’s Global Content Marketing Specialist. While the main part of his role is managing the Students For Liberty blog, he also frequently hosts interviews on Instagram Live. He enjoys researching a wide variety of topics, including liberal political theory, politics and current events, emerging technologies, cryptocurrencies, and free market environmentalism. Russell obtained a B.A. in Humanities from the Open University in 2016, specializing in History and French. He later graduated from Ulster University Coleraine with a Master of Arts in History. With a long-standing interest in the ideas of liberty, he discovered Students For Liberty by attending a regional conference in 2017. He joined SFL as a Local Coordinator and later became the National Coordinator for Northern Ireland. Having experience in freelance editing and translating, he joined the Speak Freely team as an assistant editor in 2018, before starting his current role in Students For Liberty in 2019. In his spare time, Russell enjoys cycling, walking, nature photography, and chai lattes. He has a keen interest in Irish history and anything involving rail transport. Russell has also developed and managed an area of sustainable private forest and wetland in rural Ireland since 2014.
